Smart Water Heat $1,000 Rebate

Smart Water Heat is offering a $1,000 rebate on heat pump water heaters that provide high levels of energy performance in cooler, northern climates. Homeowners in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana will be eligible for the rebate.

Who is eligible?

Homeowners installing qualifying heat pump water heaters in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or Montana are eligible for the rebate.

Are there any restrictions?

Yes, the heat pump water heater must replace an existing electric water heater and must be installed by a Smart Water Heat oriented contractor. In addition, if the unit is installed in a heated space, ducting is required with a constant airflow regulator as outlined in the Best Practices Installation Guide. New construction is also eligible for the rebate.

What heat pump water heaters are eligible for the rebate?

The AirGenerate ATI66 and the AirGenerate ATI80 heat pump water heaters are eligible for the rebate.

Who can install the heat pump water heater?

To be eligible for the Smart Water Heat rebate, only oriented contractors can install the new heat pump water heater. Oriented contractors must:

  • Attend a Smart Water Heat orientation
  • Attend a manufacturer’s training
  • Adhere to manufacturer installation instructions including the hardwiring procedure
  • Follow Smart Water Heat installation best practices
  • Be licensed, bonded and insured

Can a homeowner apply for a utility rebate and the Smart Water Heat rebate?

Yes, as long as the heat pump water heater is installed in accordance with the requirements for each rebate.

What is the quality assurance process?

Quality assurance inspections will be performed in the field by Smart Water Heat to evaluate and verify heat pump water heater eligibility standards, including installation quality and installation location. Quality assurance findings will be shared with utilities and other stakeholders in the Northwest.

What is the rebate process?

First, a homeowner must contact an oriented contractor. Then, the contractor will help the homeowner complete the necessary paperwork and ensure that all installation requirements are met. The contractor or homeowner must submit the rebate form (electronically or postmarked) to Smart Water Heat within 2 business days on installation. Rebate payment and processing takes 8-12 weeks.

How long will the Smart Water Heat rebate be available?

The rebate is offered beginning May 1, 2012 and is available while funds last. Check back for updates.
